Early carrots are grown in the south of England, where temperature and light levels allow early production. From July to November, maincrop carrots are harvested daily in East Anglia. During the winter months (Dec to April), carrots are covered in the field using black polythene and straw to protect the roots against frost damage, thus extending the UK supply period. For supply in April and May, carrots are grown in Scotland where cooler temperatures and a later season provide quality roots for longer. During June we will bring in new season carrots from Spain and France. As the first new season carrots become available in Europe, they will give us our first experience of the improved flavour and textures that we would expect of young, immature and fresh carrots.
