The foundations of our approach to CSR are our company policies. During 2007 and 2008 the scope of these have been extended significantly to cover all aspects of our social and environmental responsibilities.

As you would expect from a business of our size employing over 1200 people, we have a comprehensive range of HR and Health and Safety policies covering issues as diverse as equal opportunities, working hours and fire safety procedures. These policies relate mainly to our Workplace Culture commitment and our responsibilites to our own and to agency employees.

Responsible Sourcing is primarily covered by The Produce World Responsible Sourcing Code of Practice. This sets out our required standards in relation to fair trading, labour practices and health and safety. It applies to both Produce World's own sites and businesses plus those of our suppliers. The purpose of the Code of Practice is to ensure that the Produce World supply chain meets the highest ethical standards and forms part of our commitment to sustainable development.

Produce World is proud to have it's heritage in East Anglia and despite our recent growth, our operations remain predominantly in Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Suffolk. We recognise the important role we have to play in the towns and villages where we operate and understand our potential to create either a positive or negative community impact. Our community policy is designed to ensure that we are respectful and responsible neighbours and that we make a meaningful contribution to community life.

The area which has seen the most intense activity recently has been policy development relating to environmental stewardship. Public interest and concern has prompted us to re evaluate our environmental impacts and has led to the development of policies covering carbon emissions, energy and water efficiency, waste, biodiversity, chemical usage and transport.
